Faith Like A Child

Yesterday was a good day. After working all day I came home to a wonderful wife and child sleeping in her bed. After Andrea left for a girls night out with some friends I woke Emma up around 6pm. After she had some dinner she went on to play with her little princess toys from a Disney story book. As she got the book out of the toy box she opened the book ever so slowly and preceeded to extract each figure with gentle care. Naming each one as she took them out. She picked each one up and brought them to the couch where I was sitting surfing the internet and looking at my Facebook page. After she had them all lined up she went and got a little toy chair which later turned into a small stage. Where one by one each princess had a turn doing a show. After the first act she asked me if I would play with her. After about 5 minutes of her asking I gave in. At first she gave me Sebastian, the crab from The Little Mermaid. That lasted only a few minutes. Then she gave me Rasjah, the tiger from Aladdin. She was the director and she was telling me what to do and what to say. After we were finished she very slowly and calmly put her toys away and came and sat on my lap and thanked me for playing with her and that she loved me. She then said something that she never said to me before. She said she was happy that I was her dad. I melted or course and couldn't contain my tears. She then gave me a huge hug and kiss and then went on to play with something else.

Children see things differently than we do. Simple, peaceful, and humble. And while we spend our time, energy, and resources on balancing life's stresses and fighting to maintain the reputation we've built for ourselves, Jesus is gently calling us back to the heart of a child. A child is absolutely dependent upon thier parents to meet thier every need. And without ever realizing it, they take a step of faith every time they trust thier parents to come through. Our Heavenly Father insists that His children (you and me) carry an identical perspective.

"Show me Your ways, O LORD; Teach me Your paths. Lead me in Your truth and teach me, for You are the God of my salvation; on You I wait all the day." — Ps 25:4-5 (NIV)

"Continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of, because you know those from whom you learned it, and how from infancy you have known the holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus." - 2 Timothy 3:14-15 (NIV)

Often times I get stressed from working a long day and my drive to and from work. But I know when I get home there is something there that can help me get past all that. Once I walk in the door and see her shining face as she says, "Dad, you're home. I'm so glad you're home. I missed you." All the stress and worry goes away. God want us to do that to Him as well. He feels the joy just like I do when we come running to Him. If you are stressed out, bored, lonely, hurting, or whatever and need someone to talk to. Shut off the TV and get off the internet, because the answers aren't there. Open the Bible, pray and worship God. He will meet you where you are. Talk to Him, love on Him because He loves you. He died for you so that you can come directly to Him for anything. Being born again is having a personal relationship with Him. He is your best friend, your listener, and your ultimate father. You can talk to Him about anything. After all, He does know it all already.

Until next time!
