Going through the motions

I have been on such a high from our church service on Sunday. My pastor spoke a message about a spiritual reboot. Often times when we get into the motions of being a christian we lose sight of what God really wants from us. When we are first born again we are on fire and crave what God has for us. When we pray and read The Word we are feeding our spirit. Pastor Scott's illustration was about computers. Think of our spirit as a hard drive. When we are in the world we are bombarded with things we don't need. Just like your computer is everytime you surf the internet. Your computer gets slowed down by spyware, malware, and viruses. With a computer sometimes you need to reload the entire operating system and return it to factory settings. We need to do that in our spiritual life. There are so many things in this world that come at us and slow us down and get us distracted. This is when we need a spiritual reboot. The only thing; you cannot reboot yourself. God has to do it. When you press in by praying and reading the Word, and worshiping Him.

Having said that, I have been listening to a song all week from Casting Crowns called "Your Love Is Extravagant". Here are the words.

Your love is extravagant
Your friendship, it is intimate
I feel I'm moving to the rhythm of Your grace
Your fragrance is intoxicating in the secret place
Cause Your love is extravagant

Chorus:
Spread wide in the arms of Christ there's a love that covers sin
No greater love have I ever known; You considered me a friend
Capture my heart again

Your love is extravagant
Your friendship, it is intimate
I feel I'm moving to the rhythm of Your grace
Your fragrance is intoxicating in the secret place
Your love is extravagant

Spread wide in the arms of Christ there's a love that covers sin
No greater love have I ever known; You considered me a friend
Spread wide in the arms of Christ there's a love that covers sin
No greater love have I ever known; You considered me a friend
Capture my heart again

Your love is extravagant
Your friendship, it is intimate

This songs talks about love being extravagant and friendship being intimate. Webster's definition of Extravagant is exceeding the limits of reason or necessity. Intimate means to make known especially publicly or formally. God loved us so much that he sent His son to die for us. When we are born again we pray, worship, and read His Word and form a friendship. His love is so great and His friendship is so personal that we should get lost in Him. Part of the spiritual reboot is going back to the beginning. Starting over in a sense. We protect our computers with spyware, malware, and virus protection. When you pray, worship, and read the Word that is our spiritual protection against the crud of the world we live in. So shut off the TV, get off the internet. Spend time with God and watch your relationship grow. It does work. I am living proof.

Until next time!

B
